Coffee Talk to Connect with Neighbors

+ flags + family farms + lots of events upcoming

Quick Reminder: Don’t forget to stop by the Concord Township Farmers’ Market on Sunday between 9 am and 12 pm. All the details here!

I started this newsletter for several reasons. Rest assured, it wasn’t for the money. 🤣 Somewhere out there, a late-stage capitalist is crying on my behalf.

Shameless plug: If you’d like to be a paid subscriber, I won’t complain. 🫶🏻 And if you already are, thank you, thank you!! If you’re not, that’s a-okay too.

One of the primary reasons I created this newsletter is to build community and connections among our neighbors. Life is so much more vibrant and fulfilling when we share it with others. Our neighbors have some incredible stories to share.

Science even supports the power of IRL social connections for our health. Friendships help us live longer, reduce loneliness, and boost our self-esteem! And no, “friends” on Facebook don’t count. Have you seen the content promoted on that dumpster fire website lately? It is often not very “friendly.” 🔥

Come out and hang in person

Next weekend, the Chadds Ford Democrats are hosting an informal conversation at Chadds Ford Coffee House with local small business owner, author, and community activist Elizabeth Moro, to chat about how intentional, community-centered experiences can help us find a path forward during these hyper-partisan times. The discussion will explore how grassroots efforts (like this newsletter1 😉) can counteract the fear and isolation created by the daily news and social media.

This event will be a great opportunity to meet and mingle with friends and neighbors while supporting a wonderful local business! If you’d like to attend, please register as space is limited. The event is free, but registration ensures everyone gets a chair and the crowd doesn’t exceed the max capacity of the coffee house.

You can also bring a friend. Just be sure you include them in the number of tickets for your registration.

Elizabeth isn’t your girl, or coffee houses aren’t your jam? No worries. Sit this one out. We’ll see you at the next event that’s more in your wheelhouse. Not everything is for everyone, and that’s ok. 💛

Got any questions? Reply to this email or leave a comment. If I can’t answer them, I happen to know the peeps who can. I’m planning to attend, and I hope to see you there.

Date & Time: Saturday, June 21 from 4-5:30 pm

Location: Chadds Ford Coffee House, 1620 Baltimore Pike

❤️ Flag Day Collection 🤍 💙

A lot is happening this Saturday (is that the understatement of the century???!) If you have a flag that needs to be retired, Chadds Ford Township and the Chadds Ford Township Residents Association are co-hosting an American flag collection on Friday, June 14th, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the 1704 House (21 Oakland Road). All collected flags will be respectfully retired during a Veterans Day ceremony.

New Roots for Ramsey Farm

You may have already heard, but if not, now you know! Ramsey Farm is opening its second location at the old SIW Veggies spot. Check out their new site for all the details.

Father’s Day with the fam?

Is it just me, or are Father’s Day gift lists a conglomeration of grilling accessories, manly aprons, leather wallets, and a few six packs of beer? I guess they’re cool, but…

Here are a few local ideas to consider. Leave a comment with your plans for Father’s Day. Perhaps your plans are perfect for someone else as well.

  • Play pickleball at the Concord Township courts

  • Get a nice service from Club Shave

  • Dinner at Brandywine Prime, Chadds Ford Tavern, Osteria Ama

  • Pizza from Ravanesi. Pro tip: Be sure to call ahead and reserve your dough balls.

  • What else should we add to this list?

Looking ahead

Here are a few other events you might want to add to your calendar. Several require registration in advance.

Other events to add?

In the comments, feel free to share any other events happening in and around Chadds Ford that you think our neighbors will enjoy!
