Hike: Turnpike Trails (Special Edition)
👣 Hike of the Week 🥾
In honor of surviving the busiest road trip traveling days of the year last week, I’ve got a special edition of the Hike of the Week coming to you from… the Pennsylvania Turnpike. What??! 🤯 For real, I can’t make this up. Today I’m featuring new trails along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, accessible from the Sideling Hill Travel Plaza.

I know hiking and driving 112 miles per hour on the state’s main throughfare (because there’s always someone who wants to pass you, no matter how fast you’re going) don’t seem to fit together like peanut butter and jelly. But now you can experience them in one adventure. I know, extra time on the PA Turnpike is always on your wish list. 🫶🏻
The Sideling Hill turnpike service area includes access to over 600 miles of recreational trails. In this very fancy video, the narrator highlights cyclists’ ability to use the trails. But if they’re suitable for bikes, they’ll work for feet, too. The paths even include access to an old, vintage turnpike tunnel no longer in use by cars. It’s pretty neat!

I’m super curious! Would you consider using these? With so many miles of trails, they could be a trip in themselves (especially for trail cyclists). Or they could be a nice way to break up a long drive and stretch your legs after hours on the road.
