The Brandywine Trail (First State National Historic Park)

📍Smith’s Bridge Parking Lot, FSNHP (Google Maps)

👣 Gravel and dirt, well-maintained

💚 There are a bunch of paths throughout the park. From Chadds Ford, I like parking in the Smith’s Bridge parking lot. Parking is free, and there is an overflow lot a bit further south down the road if the gravel lot is full.

For this path, walk down along the Brandywine until you get to the fork in the path. Follow the wider path to the left when it bends away from the Brandywine Creek to enjoy this wide, well-maintained portion of the trails.

Much of the path is shaded and wide, perfect for summer when it’s hot and vegetation is in full swing. It’s also not too wet in the winter or after it rains, so it works well in any season.

Details to send in your recommendations and photos!

I’d love to get your recommendations and see photos of your hikes around the Brandywine Valley (or anything within about 60 minutes or so of Chadds Ford). If you’re willing to share your ideas and/or photos, reply to this newsletter to email them to me ([email protected]). If you send along photos, I’ll assume you’re ok with me sharing them in this newsletter unless you say otherwise. Thank you!!
